Calligraphy Southscribes is a group of calligraphy enthusiasts located in the southern suburbs of Sydney. Based in the Sutherland Shire which encompasses the birthplace of European settlement of Australia, Botany Bay, we have strong cultural links to our local area. Our members are diverse; some are very experienced and accomplished practitioners of the art of calligraphy, others are relative newcomers. We have an established tradition of the experts helping the learners, both informally and through our regular lettering workshops. Meetings are held at Sylvania Community Centre Canberra Road Sylvania on the second Saturday of each month, starting at 10.00am. The meeting is followed by an informal workshop at 1.00pm. This is an opportunity for beginners to have help from our experts. Lettering workshops are held four times a year, for six weeks on Thursday evenings, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. These are advertised in the local press, open to all over the age of sixteen a nd are very popular. Calligraphy is waxing!
