My name is Joe Vitolo. I grew up in Hoboken, NJ and now live in Rochester, NY. I dedicate my spare time to advancing my technique as a Penman. Engrosser's Script (Copperplate) is the form of script that occupies my thoughts. The primary reason for developing my writing ability is for writing personal letters. There is no substitute for the beauty and romance of the hand-written letter. In addition, one can raise the mundane to the level of Art, for example writing a check or prescription. I recently attended the International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH) convention. My local penmanship club, The Greater Rochester Penmanship Club hosted the convention. That was a pivotal event in the development of my Penmanship skills. I was able to meet with Master Penmen such as Bill Lilly, one of the last graduates of the Zanerian College of Penmanship, and Michael Sull, the acknowledge expert in Spencerian script. The beauty of their work leaves one with an incredible sense of awe. The experience was both educational and extremely humbling. Now a little about my background. I was a Dentist in clinical practice for approximately 7 years before returning to school to pursue a second doctorate, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Currently I attend the University of Rochester School of Medicine. My other interests include reading and writing poetry, drawing (pen and ink) and playing guitar. My sport of choice is competitive target Archery. My personal web site: http://www.zanerian.com |
