It is ten years since Mark Lander began his remarkable project
which has enabled papermakers all over the world to acquire
an affordable 'Critter' Hollander Beater.

Mark's small profit margin, has allowed him to provide Critters
to various deserving causes endeavouring to establish
small scale paper production projects to generate some income
in special needs areas.

THE CRITTER PROJECT
and its creator Mark Lander

As Mark tells it:-

"My background is in Art and Education,

I built my own machines because I was interested in handmade paper...
for me me me to use in paintings and woodcuts,

I read every book on papermaking that I could find in the library.

My first Hollander was built from and old kitchen sink, a pieces of timber and bits of old washing machines,

I made and remade it six times before I got a satisfactory design.

The first time I started it up a few bars fell off, and thats the way it ran for the next ten years...........
it worked wonderfully well".
