Mark and his Art

For those who think Mark works in luxurious surrounds, perhaps a couple of photos will show just what he's prepared to endure for his Critter building and his artwork

Critters are born in a drafty shed - in Mark's words
"I wish you could see me really enjoying making these machines, imagine an old sheepshearing shed, with gaps in the walls and holes in the roof, a dirt floor in places, All my tools are hung on old farmers nails, brrr its a bit drafty in winter, the wind whistles in and out the badly fitting door, and there's ol' Grampa Mark wearing three jerseys and two pairs of pants, sparks from the big grinder shooting around the place like fireworks...I am as happy as a hog in mud! "

Winters in New Zealand are no picnic by the looks of it

But in spite of his less than ideal conditions,
Mark manages to produce some stunning paper artworks

Bending Palm

The scale of his papers is just wonderful

Creating such large sheets of paper requires a little improvisation!

But the results say it all

Recently Mark acquired a letterpress printer

And he lost no time in putting it to good use to produce
a series of prints from his woodcuts
